Philip Chao, Saber

Sophomore/Lawrenceville, NJ

I started fencing abroad and fenced on my high school’s fencing team (captaining senior year). Competed at RJCC events nearby. I was born in Shanghai. I’m interested in watching sports (football, basketball, soccer, hockey), fencing, writing, traveling, and learning about new cultures and languages.
At Cornell: Fencing, Cornell Political Union, Cornell Diplomat, Cornell Economics Society
Favorites: The book stacks or the Asian reading room in Olin if I need to be alone and get work done. With a group of friends or classmates, the upstairs reservable study room is always a go-to spot. Favorite class: Govt 2553, focuses on hot, relevant topics in European politics, a great combination of academic challenges and my personal interest.
